What we do
Maternity Worldwide provides assistance to the most disadvantaged pregnant women and girls. We are currently concentrated in Sub-Saharan Africa which has the highest rates of maternal mortality in the world.
We improve access to hospitals with maternal care capacity, and establish new rural clinics where they are needed most. We ensure that these facilities are able to provide better maternal care through midwifery training. We also employ extra healthcare practitioners and supply equipment for the care of maternity patients. We help the most disadvantaged pregnant women and girls by facilitating community-based income generation and savings schemes, which helps those least able to afford it to pay for healthcare. We empower women and girls through facilitating women’s groups that provide health education, information, advice and support so that they are better able to take decisions over their own healthcare.
In the UK, Maternity Worldwide works with a network of healthcare and charitable organisations to improve the situation for the most disadvantaged pregnant women and girls through advocacy and policy initiatives.
