Maternity Worldwide Denmark get Royal Treatment
Congratulations to Maternity Worldwide Denmark who opened their Save a Mother's Life photography exhibition in Copenhagen recently. The exhibition was opened by none other than crown princess Mary who spoke on the importance of reducing maternal mortality. AGM
Our 2007/08 AGM was held on 29th November 08, and was attended by supporters. stakeholders, advisors, the Board of Trustees and staff.
Dr Adrian Brown, Chair of the Board of Trustees, opened the AGM by welcoming those present and thanking them for attending the Annual General Meeting. Apologies were received and the agenda outlined.
Review of the Year
Achievements of the year were discussed, including:
- Fundraising: the Radio 4 Appeal, Concert and the Ethiopia Bike Ride Challenge.
- Continued success of the Gimbie Programme
- In Gimbie this year there were 1297 babies delivered at the hospital. 285 of these were treated as an obstetric complication. Shane Duffy, Clinical Director noted therefore that Maternity Worldwide potentially saved the lives of 285 women this year. A 51% increase in deliveries in 1 year.
Key challenges of this year were also discussed. This included:
- High staff turnover which exposed the vulnerability of being a small organisation and the need to put in place measures to protect against this vulnerability
Priorities and Planning
The Executive Officer presented an overview of the business plan for 2008/09. Key elements included:
- Development of best practice guidelines to communications, monitoring and evaluation and information policies.
- Strengthening of systems increase organisational efficiency, vital to facilitate key programmatic and funding objectives.Clarify the involvement of Denmark and Germany in strategic planning, including resource allocation and in the Ethiopia Programme in particular.
- Expansion and growth - Sierra Leone, Uganda. Developing strategic partnerships to help us achieve this
- Support to achieve these objectives:
- Committed supporters, expanding MW support base
- Organisational structure - volunteers and staff
- Communication strategies/branding/communicating messages.
