Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust fundraiser
Staff of the Women's Directorate at Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust raised a magnificent £2,035 for our programme in Gimbie
Maternity Worldwide Executive Officer visited the team to say thankyou and to accept the cheque on the charity's behalf.
The money was raised through a raffle
and an auction at a Ball held at the Hilton Hotel in Cobham in October 2008. It was
organised by community midwife Lisa Davis
Said Lisa:
"When I worked as a Midwife at St Richard's Hospital in
Chichester a few years ago I was introduced to Maternity Worldwide by a
colleague and we organised a charity auction fundraiser. When I came to
Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals just over a year ago I was keen to
spread the word about Maternity Worldwide to my new colleagues and
fundraise for the charity's Gimbie project in Ethiopia. Eileen Nolan, our Associate
Director of Maternity Services was keen to support the event and
suggested it as a women's health party to encourage a social event for
staff. The party was called the 'Women's Health Party' and was held in
the autumn at The Hilton Hotel in Cobham. We approached local businesses to
donate the auction and raffle prizes and we were overwhelmed by their
generosity - some examples included gift vouchers, an autographed
picture of Jake Gyllenhaal, a Nintendo Wii, dinner including champagne
at The Minnow in Weybridge, Tea for Two at The Ritz, selection of
Autographed novels, organic baby products, a baby bouncer chair, a
photographic session including framed picture - the list goes on! The
night was a huge success and we hope to make it an annual event."
A huge thanks to Lisa and her colleagues for this wonderful donation to Maternity Worldwide.
