Sponsor our mad charity Chairman to SWIM WITHOUT A WETSUIT IN ANTARCTICA...
Having run the London marathon and organised a whole range of unique fundraising events, our Charity ChairmanÊAdrian, is asking people to dig deep to support our Ethiopia, West Wollega Appeal with the unique challenge of swimming in the Antarctic Ocean in fancy dress as a Penguin, without a wetsuit. He will be taking the plunge in freezing waters, in view of other penguins, icebergs and hopefully not too many Leopard Seals!
Adrian is currently on an Antarctic expedition (self funded!) and the swim will take place whatever the weather on 21st February 2007. He has recently had a short practice swim in a seawater pool at 2 degrees centigrade:
"It was absolutely freezing and fortunately there was a sauna right next door to warm up. The real thing off the shore of Antartica will be much worse with only a cold towel to dry off and then rapidly put the thermals on."
